I have been a dog owner for over 45 years and during that time, have been to numerous vets. This place has by far exceeded all others, when it comes to knowledge, experience, price and compassion.
We recently had to have our dog euthanized on a holiday weekend when our vet was not available. The doctor at this hospital had never met us before but made our beloved pet comfortable and treated us all with kindness and respect. It made the parting of our good friend much less difficult.
I am in the process of moving to Pembroke and commute between Pembroke and Ottawa. My dog died a few years ago because when her heart began to fail in Pembroke, I did not have the time to travel back to Ottawa to see my Ottawa vet. So, I needed to be able to co-ordinate vetrinary care between Ottawa and Pembroke. I approach Christie Street Animal Hospital and spoke to them about my dilemma when I got a second dog. The vet was great - clearly concerned over the animal's welfare. When I visited the vet last year, the vet was very co-operative in accepting documents from the Ottawa vet. This year, I attended the office to obtain heartworm medication and was told rather tersely by the technician that I would need to pay for an exam before anything could be done. When I explained the situation that this had been done the year before without any issues (meaning, the office just called the Ottawa vet to obtain what information was required), I was advised by the technican (lacking basic client services skills) that it could not be done. I was told to go to my Ottawa vet to get the medication which defeated the purpose of having a file with two veterinarians. The technician was still yelling at me as I was leaving taking my business somewhere else. It is unfortunate that Christie Animal Hospital has lost my business as I was impressed by the care and advice given by the vet.
